Bio

Raphael Masters, a viola student at the Colburn Conservatory in Los Angeles, is in his senior year pursuing a Bachelor of Music degree under the tutelage of Tatjana Masurenko. He has performed with renowned orchestras such as London’s Philharmonia Orchestra, where he held the second seat, and has appeared in solo engagements at Carnegie Hall and the Sydney Opera House Concert Hall. Masters has also performed as principal viola of the New York String Orchestra, the Colburn Orchestra, and the Australian Youth Orchestra. He has been a featured recitalist at St. James in Sydney since 2021, performed chamber music at the Edinburgh International Festival, and recorded with Ensemble Apex. His mentors include Paul Coletti, Yura Lee, Stuart Johnson, Roger Benedict, and Tatjana Masurenko. He plays a modern instrument and bow generously loaned by the Colburn School.
