Calvin Wong Tai Shing
Bio
Tai Shing Calvin Wong was born in 1995 in Hong Kong. He began studying the cello with his mother at the age of six. He earned his bachelor’s degree at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts with Laurent Perrin and is currently studying for his master’s degree at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst, Frankfurt am Main, with Jan Ickert. He has taken master classes with Josef Schwab, Peter Serkin, Vladimir Mendelssohn, David Waterman, Jonathan Weigle, the Shanghai Quartet, the Endellion String Quartet, the Borromeo Quartet, and the Miami Quartet.
In 2015 and 2017 Mr. Wong was invited to take part in the Rome Chamber Music Festival with the support of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Brussels and with the sponsorship of Cathay Pacific Airlines. He also participated in the 8th Hong Kong International Chamber Music Festival, the Hong Kong–Vienna Music Festival, and the Casalmaggiore International Music Festival, where he was a winner of the Taras Gabora prize. In 2018 Mr. Wong was invited to start a solo collaboration with the Mainzer Virtuosi for concerts in Italy and Germany.
