Bio
Francesco Romano, after graduating with highest honour in guitar at the Conservatorio di Santa Cecilia in Rome he has dedicated himself to the study of Renaissance and Baroque repertoire on instruments belonging to the family of the lute. For many years he has worked as a soloist and as a member of various ensembles for the most prestigious festivals in Europe, America and Asia such as Wigmore Hall, London, Musikverein Wien, Philarmonie Berlin, Festival Early Music Stockholm, Tage für Alte Musik Berlin, Haendel Festspiele Halle, Festival Innsbruck, Festival Utrecht, Festival of Bruges, Festival of Ambronnay, Festival de Lyon, Festival Regensburg Potsdamer Festspiele, Festival Bach Leipzig, Staatskapelle Dresden, Staatsoper Stuttgart, Staatsoper Hamburg, Festival di Montreux, Theatre de la Monnaye Bruxelles, Cité de la Musique, Paris, Théatre de Champs Elyseés Paris, Early Music Festival Vancouver, Accademia di S. Cecilia Roma, Teatro Regio Torino, Teatro della Pergola Firenze, Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Festival di Stresa, Festival MITO etc)
Since his foundation is member of “Gli Incogniti” (Amandine Beyer). He has collaborated with, among others, Sir John Eliot Gardiner, Christoph Coin, Giuliano Carmignola, Andrew Lawrence King, Rinaldo Alessandrini. He has recorded for Harmonia Mundi, Opus 111, Capriccio, RCA, Virgin, Symphonia, Hyperion, Edel Klassik, Zig Zag, Divox, Amadeus, Arcana. In 2015 he was awarded with “Diapason d’Or de l’Année” for his recording of Boccherini guitar quintet with an historic instrument.
