Bio

Recipient of the Alberta Foundation for the Arts Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Scholarship, Canadian violinist Robert Mulchrone is an emerging artist whose playing reflects the influence of both European and North American traditions. He recently held a fellowship at the 2025 Aspen Music Festival studying in the studio of Robert Lipsett, appeared in the Fabian Concert Series with Amy Schwartz Moretti and Jasmine Habersham, and was named an alternate finalist in the 2025 Shean Strings Competition. He was invited to the 2024 Creative Dialogue Festival in France and gave the North American premiere of Julian Anderson’s ICE Quartet with Anssi Karttunen at the Beau Art Festival in Quebec. He has previously performed Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto with the Calgary Civic Symphony as the winner of the 2023 Rotary Calgary Concerto Competition, and was featured in Calgary ProMusica’s 2023 Young Artist Debut Concert.

Robert has served as concertmaster of the 2025 Aspen Conducting Academy Orchestra, Canada’s 2024 National Youth Orchestra and the Macon-Mercer Symphony Orchestra. He is a substitute violinist with The Philadelphia Orchestra, Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra, Red Deer Symphony, New World Symphony, and was formerly the concertmaster of the Calgary Youth Orchestra.

Robert began his musical training in Calgary, AB, before moving to Vienna, Austria, to continue his musical journey with the Vienna Boys’ Choir and study under the guidance of Christian Dallinger and Alban Berg Ensemble violinist, Regis Bringolf. During his time with the choir, he was appointed Stimmführer, principal, and soprano soloist, and performed regularly on violin accompanying the choir. In addition to touring over 30 countries, he performed solos with the Vienna Philharmonic, Orchestre National de France, Berlin Konzerthausorchester, Hungarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, and the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra, among others.

Currently, Robert is pursuing his undergraduate degree in violin performance at the McDuffie Center for Strings in Georgia, USA, studying under Amy Schwartz Moretti, David Kim, and Robert McDuffie. He is honoured to be able to attend on a full scholarship, generously provided by the Henri Landwirth Family Fund. Robert performs on a violin by Giovanni Antonio Marchi, Bologna, circa 1765.
