Bio

Natalia Midek is a Polish double bassist based in Basel, Switzerland. In 2016, she was awarded a scholarship to pursue her studies at the Royal Academy of Music in London, where she received tutelage from esteemed teachers, including Dominic Seldis, Tom Goodman, and Graham Mitchell.

In 2020, Natalia successfully auditioned for the Hochschule für Musik in Basel, where she earned her Master’s Degree under Professor Roman Patkoló in 2022. Her academic journey is complemented by a myriad of scholarships, including the prestigious Prime Minister of Poland scholarship, Melinda Esterházy de Galantha Scholarship, Eppur si muove Scholarship, and numerous others.

During the summer of 2021, Natalia had the privilege of interning at the esteemed Gstaad Menuhin Festival, an experience that led to an invitation to perform with the Gstaad Festival Orchestra. She collaborated with distinguished conductors such as Jaap van Zweden, Edward Gardner, Sir Mark Elder, Marin Alsop, and Semyon Bychkov. She has been performing regularly with Neues Orchester Basel, Basler Festival Orchester and Zakhar Bron Festival Orchester.

In summer 2023 Natalia was selected and participated in the Davos Festival Academy, performing with the Davos Festival Camerata.

In 2022, Natalia was a member of the Werkstatt Kammerorchester Basel. She performs regularly in diverse chamber groups.

Natalia is committed to perfecting her skills, attending masterclasses with acclaimed double bassists like Edgar Meyer, Joel Quarrington, Wies de Boeve, and Jiri Hudec. Her abilities have been acknowledged in international competitions, where she secured notable wins, including the Karl Ditters von Dittersdorf Double Bass Competition in Slovakia, the Anniversary Double Bass Competition in Poland and the Alex Ross Double Bass Prize in England.
