Vox Medicea

Bio

Vox Medicea is a professional male-voice ensemble grounded in the traditions of 16th-century performance. It comprises specialist singers from the UK and Italy, dedicated entirely to the repertoire of Medici Florence. As the performance initiative of the Sacred Music Programme of the Fondazione Mascarade Opera, Vox Medicea combines the discipline and musicianship of the British choral tradition with the warmth, color, and expression of the Italian tradition in order to faithfully revive the sacred sound of Medici Florence.Formed at the start of 2020 with several concerts in London, Vox Medicea soon became the focus of a special feature about the rediscovery of sacred music in Florence for the flagship CBS Sunday Morning programme, broadcast on Easter Sunday 2021. In 2022, the choir was selected to perform the inaugural concert for the celebrations to mark the 500th anniversary of the birth of Eleonora di Toledo, in the grand Sala dei Cinquecento of the historic Palazzo Vecchio, on behalf of the Comune di Firenze. Vox Medicea works regularly in collaboration with the English Cornett & Sackbut Ensemble. Since 2023 they have performed together for the annual Sacred Masterpieces of the Medici festivalino in Florence, which has seen performances at the Palazzo Pitti, Basilica of Santo Spirito, Palazzo Tornabuoni, and the Medici Basilica of San Lorenzo.
